About Argus

Argus is an independent intelligence platform for veterinary professionals navigating artificial intelligence. We curate research, track tools, and provide structured learning to help the profession make informed decisions about AI adoption.

Why Argus Exists

AI is transforming veterinary medicine — but the signal-to-noise ratio is terrible. Vendor marketing overpromises. Research papers are scattered across dozens of journals. New tools launch weekly with no independent evaluation. And most veterinary professionals don't have the time or background to separate substance from hype.

Argus exists to close that gap. Every article in our feed has been filtered for genuine AI relevance to veterinary practice. Every tool in our directory has been verified as having real AI/ML capabilities. Our learning modules are written specifically for veterinary professionals — no computer science degree required.

What We Do

Curate. We continuously scan research databases, preprint servers, industry publications, and news sources to surface the most relevant developments in veterinary AI. Our AI-powered filtering ensures that only articles at the true intersection of veterinary medicine and artificial intelligence make it into the feed.

Educate. Our learning modules break down AI concepts — from machine learning fundamentals to evaluating third-party AI solutions — in language designed for clinical professionals. The goal isn't to make you a data scientist. It's to give you the vocabulary and frameworks to evaluate AI claims, ask the right questions, and make informed decisions for your practice.

Connect. We track over 90 veterinary AI tools across radiology, documentation, diagnostics, pathology, wearables, and more. We invite expert contributors to share real-world insights from the front lines of adoption. And our weekly digest delivers the most important developments directly to your inbox.

The Name

In Homer's Odyssey, Argos was Odysseus's faithful dog — the only one who recognized his master after twenty years away. It's a story about loyalty, recognition, and seeing what others miss. That felt right for a platform dedicated to helping veterinary professionals recognize what matters in a rapidly changing landscape.

Who's Behind This

Patrick Welch

Patrick Welch, DVM, MBA, DACVO

Head of Innovation & Clinical Learning, Ethos Veterinary Health
President-Elect, Association for Veterinary Informatics

I'm a veterinary ophthalmologist who somehow ended up building learning platforms and obsessing over how AI will reshape how we practice. I've spent 17+ years at Ethos Veterinary Health, where I lead innovation and clinical learning — which mostly means I get to think about where veterinary medicine is headed and help build the infrastructure to get us there.

I'm a lifelong learner and most recently completed programs at Harvard Medical School and UC Berkeley to make sure I actually understood the AI I kept talking about. Argus is a side project born out of frustration — there was no single place a vet could go to cut through the noise on AI. So I vibe coded one with Claude to learn.

Argus is an independent project — not affiliated with any employer, vendor, or corporate interest. It exists because I believe the veterinary profession deserves a trusted, independent source of AI intelligence, and because the decisions we make about AI adoption in the next few years will shape the profession for decades.

Editorial Independence

Argus has no advertising, no sponsored content, and no vendor affiliations. Tool listings are based on verified AI capabilities, not payment. Article curation is driven by relevance, not relationships. This independence is non-negotiable — it's the foundation of everything we do.

Get Involved

Argus is stronger with community input. If you're a veterinary professional with hands-on experience using AI tools, we'd welcome your perspective as an expert contributor. If you have feedback, corrections, or suggestions, reach out — the goal is to make this the resource the profession needs.
